Foundations

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

The builders were alike in several ways.

Ø They both heard the words of Jesus and responded to them in some way.

Ø They both built houses which represent their lives.

Ø Both saw immediate success.

Ø Both probably, had similar goals and desires.

Ø They both experienced the storms of life.

The difference is in the choice of foundation for their lives. Sand builders think they can do it on their own; rock builders recognize their need for God and are willing to submit their wills to His. This submission does not mean we will not face the storms of life but that we will have God’s strength and wisdom as we withstand them. It is never too late to have your life foundation repaired and strengthened.
