Blessed

Matthew 5:7-10 NLT

7 God blesses those who are merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,

for they will see God.

9 God blesses those who work for peace,

for they will be called the children of God.

10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,

for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Bless: to invoke divine care for; to speak well of; to protect, preserve; to endow, favour.

When we look at what Jesus is saying in these verses through a different lens, I think that we will see that God can change our attitudes of mercy, purity, peace, and doing the right thing even though it may not be the popular thing. How many times have we apologized for angry words that we have muttered, but ignored the attitude of anger in our heart that led us to speak those words? I wonder if sometimes we choose to treat the symptoms, but Jesus wants to treat the disease.
